About our Duarte concrete contractor business

A wide concrete driveway leads to a gray-and-tan house with a two-car garage, surrounded by tall evergreens.

From a warehouse floor to driveways

I spent most of my working life in a warehouse before I came to concrete, which is a late start in a trade that doesn't care how you feel about it. I learned it on other contractors' crews, watching which slabs held up and which ones cracked, sank or held pooling water against the house. In 2020 I started Custom Duarte Concrete here in Duarte. Today we're known for careful prep on driveways, patios and other flatwork, the slabs you walk and drive on, and you'll find the rest of what we pour on our home page.

Most of our calls come from homeowners in Duarte and the cities around it, with some business owners mixed in. I still answer the phone myself, which surprises people more than it should. What I care about most is the ground under the concrete, because nobody sees it and you can't fix it later without a jackhammer. I'd also rather tell you plainly what concrete does over time than have it surprise you. Fewer surprises means fewer phone calls, and I like a quiet phone.

What you can count on from us

  • You deal with me from estimate to final walk

I come out, look at the job and write the estimate myself, and you get straight answers about cracks, curing, the wait while the slab hardens, and when you can use it before you sign anything. Our crew does the prep, forming, pouring and finishing while I'm on site checking the work, so what we talked about is what gets built.

  • The ground gets our time before the truck shows up

We dig out and pack the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, instead of raking it level, and we check where the water runs so the new slab doesn't fall toward your house. You won't see any of it on pour day, and it's the first thing people want to cut from a budget, but a nice slab on a bad base is just a slow problem.

  • We sort out the permit office before we schedule

Some addresses with a Duarte mailing address fall outside the city's jurisdiction, so before we schedule we check which city or county office handles yours and what the job will need from it. Then we tell you what we found and who's handling each piece, so the job doesn't stall halfway through.
